Professor Alain Bernard is a pioneer of Additive Manufacturing. In 1991, he created “le CREATE“ one of the first centres of competence in France in Rapid Prototyping. Since 1994, he is the  Vice President of the French Association of Rapid Prototyping (AFPR), today France Additive, and he is a member of the Global Alliance of Rapid Prototyping Associations. He is also a scientific adviser at the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. In 2009, he was awarded the “Academic Career Award” by the Rapid Prototyping international community at the VRAP conference in Leira, Portugal. He published many books and more than 350 papers in conferences proceedings and in indexed peer-review journals. He is associate editor of RPJ (Rapid Prototyping Journal), VPP (Virtual and Physical Prototyping), CIRP JMST(CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology) and member of the editorial board of several other international journals. He is expert for national and european agencies as well as many universities over the World. He is Fellow member of CIRP and coordinator of the Collaborative Working Group on Additive Manufacturing. He is also member of the National Academy of Technologies of France.
